Ok - this is pretty cool.

The engine that runs almost all games (including Gears of War) out there is now available as a free download to make your own game and levels.

And the great part is, there are tons of models, tutorials, code, etc. to get you started right away.

Wow - so Spore is going to be made into a movie!

It'll be directed by the folks who did Ice Age.

nI'm re-posting this job listing article I saw in Gamasutra this weekend.  I think it shows a good diversity of some of the opportunities out there in the game world.

Some of the more interesting positions include mission scripter and senior designer.

Check them out!

Reading more from this article, there is a cool feature in the game that I haven't found yet (although we have only played a few hours in it so far).

It's called "Sadie's Story" and it's a way of telling the stories of the people of New Mombassa which is where the whole game takes place.

I'm really looking forward to finding these little gems.

Here's another great Gamasutra article about the development of Halo 3: ODST.

With a team of about 70, I think they must have had huge challenges getting this game released on time.

It's a good read.

I just ran across this page from Blizzard.

They're hiring - big time.

I thought it would be encouragement for all you inspiring game makers.

I'm not sure if you've heard, but the next installment of the Halo series (Halo ODST) comes out tonight at midnight.

I'm not planning to go to the midnight release - mostly because I wouldn't actually get any sleep tonight, plus I do have to work tomorrow.  However, that hasn't stopped Gamestop from calling me twice to remind me of all the great festivities they'll have going on tonight.

Gamdev.net is a great resource for all things game related.

We know the people who run the site and they have been deeply involved in games and game development for a long time.

I came across this great article tonight about small team, independent game development.  It's a great read.

We all know the Tower Defense type of game.  There are lost of examples out there.  Most of them are in flash or on the iPhone.

They're fun.  Basically, you have a playing field, and you set up defensive towers.  Then, the game sends out ever increasing hordes of monsters to try to break through your defensives.  Fun stuff.

I love this game, so I had to post some pictures here:
